Do You Need a Mentor to Succeed?

By: Randy - The Hermit - Baustert

I am a firm believer in continued education. This includes the Internet Marketing field BUT do you really need a coach or a mentor?

Before I answer that question let me first tell you that I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on coaching from people like Michael Cheney, Mark Hendricks, Sterling Valentine, Mike Filsaime, Alan Bechtold, Michael Fortin and a few others. So, I am speaking from experience. In my case it was money well spent because I have earned a lot more back then I spent.

That doesn't mean that coaching would be right for you. How much you get out of coaching will depend a lot on YOU!

* What your expectations are and what level you are at.

* Your relationship with your coach.

* How much effort you put in to the program.

* How much faith you have in the program or coach.

Your Expectations - You need to know what your goals are for the coaching program you are entering and if you already have enough background to start the specific coaching program you are looking at. It would most likely be a waste of money if you went into an advanced strategies coaching program and you still didn't have a product or website to use these strategies on. Make sure your coaching program is appropriate for your level of experience

If you don't have a website or a product do you really need a coaching program on advanced marketing strategies? Probably not, this would usually mean you are just starting out and you would need a program that gets you started. Save your money for the advanced program until you have started making some income.

When you are starting out your best bet is to look for a program that will show you the basics on getting started. This should be a fairly low priced coaching program, possibly even a home study course. But you are better off with a coach that you can ask questions. Look for a 3 to 6 month program and take action on everything before the program is over so that you can get any questions you might have answered by the coach.

Relating to Your Coach - Before you join any coaching program check out the person or people running it, sign up to their list(s), read their blog(s) and review their products and sites. Make sure that your prospective coach is some one that you can relate to, by this is should be someone that you respect, admire, has the same ethical view point as you and is further along in the process then you are.

Remember your coach doesn't need to be a "Guru" but they do need to know enough to move you up to the next level.

How Much You Work At It - There is no free lunch, there is no magic button you can push that will make you an overnight success. You will have to actually take the actions recommended by your coach if you want your coaching to succeed.

All good coaching programs will give you homework. Yes, you will have to do something to learn. When you get these assignments do them but don't do them by rote, dig into them and make sure you understand what you are supposed to understand. If they ask you to read something don't just skim over it, read it! Read it twice or three times until you fully comprehend what the purpose of the reading is.

Believe - In anything you do your mindset will usually be the deciding factor that makes the difference between success and failure. The more you believe you can do something the better your chances of achieving it.

If you don't believe that the coaching program you are looking at will move you closer to your goals and I mean believe 100% then don't join the coaching program.

Some of your expectations will be set by the copy for the coaching program. Whether you hear this verbally at a seminar of if you read the copy on the page you need to truly believe what it is telling you. If you read and have any doubts at all that program is probably not for you.
